Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.
What has your experience been with the Mixed Chicks products?
For me, I have had nothing but good experiences with Mixed Chicks products. They are of high quality and my hair feels healthy after using them.
What makes them different than other hair/beauty products you’ve tried in the past?
Hair products I have used before were full of chemicals and had strong smells, whereas Mixed Chicks products don’t. I also love the fact they cater to mixed hair. I also love the fact they’re alcohol and cruelty free! This shows the company has good ethics.
Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chicks product you cannot go without?
If I had to choose one, it would be the leave-in conditioner. It stops my curls from frizzing and defines them while adding moisture. However, I do equally love the hair silk after I wash my hair and during the day.
How has having a product specifically for your biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?
My beauty regime is so much easier with products for my background. Before, I used to have so many products for different hair types that weren’t working for me but now I have products which I don’t have to think twice about using.
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
My curls represent my Tanzanian and English background. My curls always have people wondering where I am from and my curls also bring a lot of positivity and curiosity as to how I look after them.
What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
I love that Mixed Chicks has helped me to embrace my curls rather than relax my hair. The main thing that set me back from embracing my curls was the lack of products available and I felt like I couldn’t get the results I wanted, but now I can.
If you could define Your Hair Story in one word what would it be?
Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?
This is vital because everyone should grow up loving themselves and their natural beauty. I am so happy now that natural hair is being celebrated, meaning we can set examples for younger people to embrace their hair, regardless of its texture. I hope no one will feel the need to ‘fit in’ and feel like they have to alter their hair to do that. The biggest regret for me was deciding to relax my hair to fit in and it’s rewarding to see less of that!
If your ‘Mixed Chick’ story were a song, what would it be?
(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. This song makes me feel like I can do what I want and I feel free with my curls now, rather than held back by them
Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
There are a lot of youtubers that have inspired me to go on this natural journey. To name a few: SunKissAlba, Tasha Green and Alyssa Forever
