Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.
What has your experience been with the Mixed Chicks products? I’m a more recent user of the Mixed Chicks hair care line. What drew me to Mixed Chicks products was the name! As a biracial woman, it has always been a struggle to find products that meet my hair needs. Mixed Chicks was practically screaming for me when I found them in the hair aisle of Target.
What makes them different than other hair/beauty products you tried in the past? What I love about Mixed Chicks is their appeal to multiracial women. The word “mixed” is such a common phrase when describing people of multiple races, it’s a great way to appeal to their target audience. I also love how genuine the company feels and the cruelty-free aspect of their hair care lines.
Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without? I use the Mixed Chicks leavein conditioner almost every day. It’s not sticky or heavy and it keeps my hair moisturized!
How has having a product specifically for your biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime? As a little girl, it was always challenging to learn how to wear my hair naturally or find hair care products that catered to my needs. Because of that, I thought my hair must be abnormal, so I straightened it for years, adding lots of damage. Mixed Chicks helped me learn to love my natural beauty, while repairing it at the same time. It also led me away from hair care products that added lots of buildup to my scalp. Now my beauty regime is something I look forward to, and it makes my hair easy to manage.
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background? My curls embody my black background, reminding me to be unapologetic about my hair. My curls are big and wild and free, showing how proud I am of being biracial.
What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care? I really appreciate and admire Mixed Chicks mission to provide hair care for multiracial backgrounds. It makes me feel like there’s finally a company out there made specifically for me!
If you could define Your Hair Story in one word what would it be? Resurgence
Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation? Celebrating natural hair is so important, not only for our generation but the generation after. I do not want girls to grow up in a similar way I did, where they are told by magazines and peers that their hair is uncommon or abnormal. By teaching young girls how to take care of their hair and wear it naturally, we promote confidence and empowerment, which will build stronger women and more diverse ideas of beauty.
If your ‘Mixed Chick’ story were a song, what would it be? Pretty Hurts by Beyonce
Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles? I am a style and empowerment blogger at bunsandblazers.com, but I am not a beauty/hair blogger! However, I love Luhsettyxo’s Youtube channel and Kai Frias’ instagram!
