Mixed Chicks: Your Hair Story Series – Talia

By Desiree Johnson

Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

What has your experience been with the Mixed Chicks products? Although I’ve only tried and have one product, my experience with Mixed Chicks has been great.

What makes them different than other hair/beauty products you tried in the past? What makes them different in my opinion is they embrace and empower diversity people of mixed race and loving the hair they are given. Also just by doing features like these and interested in what real people have to say about their products and results.

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without? So far the Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner. I like it so much I have the big size bottle

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime? It definitely has given me an extra boost in confidence when using it because it just reassures me being different is beautiful and there is a community and brand just for me and all us mixed peeps out there.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background? Well my texture represents my cultural background and being mixed because it can be kind of crazy which us Latinas pretty much are known for lol which isn’t always true and we aren’t THAT bad I promise ?

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care? One feature is just the brand itself-the name that empowers me every time I look at it &/or use it.

If you could define Your Hair Story in one word what would it be? One word would be enduring and I also have a video all about it for more on my YouTube channel. Be sure to check it out! ?

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation? It’s vital because for too many years’ society has brainwashed us that “natural hair” is either kinky, “cheap,” dirty, for the lower class, unprofessional and not beautiful. Too many times and I actually have done experiments to test my own theory…. Going on interviews with natural hair but still polished as it can be and heat processed straightened. I got the job every time when I had my hair straight and negative vibes when curly. It’s about time that we keep the revolution going strong to inform people natural hair is healthy hair and it IS beautiful no matter the texture or hair type. It is NOT cheap or just for the lower and middle class. We can be and are very professional and having straight hair shouldn’t factor in a woman’s beauty.

If your ‘Mixed Chick’ story were a song, what would it be? Probably Make it Through the Rain by Mariah Carey, Survivor or So Good by Destiny’s Child

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles? I always have to give credit to Naturallycurly.com when asked this type of question. They really paved the way for us curlies and continue to drop so much knowledge from ingredients products, DIYs and motivation for the natural and curly hair community. I also love SunKissAlba and HeyFranHey they’ve been there with me (virtually) from the start and haven’t stopped watching them ever since. I aspire to motivate other women and empower them to go natural through my own channel, blog and everyday life online & off.
