Your hair Story series - Virginia

By Desiree Johnson

Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

What has your experience been with the Mixed Chicks products?

I credit Mixed Chicks with why I love my hair again. I had many years where my hair just felt…gross. Thin and lifeless. But when I started using Mixed Chicks, I could tell my hair was improving from the getgo, and now I just love how soft and curly and amazing my hair is.

What makes them different than other hair/beauty products you tried in the past?

Instead of just getting my hair to cooperate, Mixed Chicks actually improves my hair. It is truly healthier looking and feeling because of Mixed Chicks.

Do you have a GoTo or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

Leave-in Conditioner, alltheway. I can’t live without it.

How has having a product specifically for your biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

I used to think my hair was just bland a meh and that it was just kind of there. But having a product that is specifically for my mixedethnicity has made it so I’m more proud of my hair, and it allows me to embrace my heritage that much more.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

I am an American mix Irish, German, Spanish, Mexican, and Native American. My hair has every color of the hairrainbow in it, and loose, wavy curls. Relatives on varying sides of my family have had curly hair, and I love how I can see each one of them in my hair, depending on the day.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

Just having a product with people behind it that understand that mixes come in all forms is very empowering.

If you could define Your Hair Story in one word what would it be?

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

Our generation is becoming more and more aware of how important selfacceptance is, how important it is to embrace all of the beautiful things that make us all different, and yet the same, as one another. We are fighting to break free of labels and boxes, and I think celebrating one’s natural hair is part of that freedom of expression.

If your ‘Mixed Chick’ story were a song, what would it be?

This is hard! But I’m going to have to say “Meet Virginia” by Train. It’s kind of obvious, but it’s awesome. The opening line goes “she doesn’t own a dress, her hair is always a mess…” 🙂

Do you have any goto beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
