Denise

What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

As a multicultural woman that identifies as Blaxican- Black, Mexican, and American, I feel empowered. Because I walk in my truth as an editor, writer, educator, photographer, and poet, I am able to equip others with the tools and resources that they need to create and thrive. Though I am young I have much to offer and feel at my best when I am educating and inspiring others.

Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

My favorite Mixed Chick products are the Leave-In Conditioner, since it accentuates my curls and the Hair Silk, because it gives my curls a beautiful shine and softness. The hair silk can even be applied to other hair textures as well, which is useful since my hair is versatile.

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

My rebellious curls are a reflection of my strength, determination, and perseverance as a mujer that rises above all odds. Sometimes they have a mind of their own but shouldn’t we all?

What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out?

I can’t wait to try out the styling gel. I am sure it will be a great addition to my growing supply of Mixed Chicks products. I am also curious about the sweet pear bar soap. It sounds like it would be a lovely scent.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

What is especially empowering about Mixed Chicks is the nature of inclusiveness and diversity. There are so many wonderful representations of beauty present within this network and it’s truly captivating. Since discovering Mixed Chicks, I have been rocking my natural and healthy hair from everywhere to work, events, and college/high school campuses. That newfound confidence is what allows me to stay true to what I believe in which is love, freedom, knowledge, and community bonds.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

The hair revolution is vital for our generation because it embraces individuality. So many people are pressured to conform to unrealistic expectations and standards that do not embrace their culture, gender, or identity. Expresssion through hair is one way to defy those pressures. Why be like everyone else when you can be your unapologetic self?

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

A musical artist that really inspires me is Esperanza Spalding. She is a rad jazz bassist and singer that is full of fire and passion.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

One of my favorite blogs for natural hair care is Natural Hair Rules. There is so much insightful and entertaining information available there to view and read.
