By Desiree Johnson
Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.
Brandon
What does (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?
Being Black means the world to me, simply put, being black is phenomenal! Simply put, I feel as though I am “Black by Popular Demand”
Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?
My go-to/ must have/ cannot live without product is the Mixed Chick Leave-In Conditioner. I honestly think a lot of people are missing out on this gem of a product. I’ll have to give credit to my girlfriend for putting me on game lol because I was seriously sleeping on this for the longest.
How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?
Having such a product has helped tremendously! People are always commenting on how soft my hair looks, both on my head and my face. So having products specifically for my hair contributes to this because I have tried others that are not and I always observe an adverse effect. Hey, “Sometimes, you let the hair do the talking”. – James Brown
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
I appreciate my hair and I take pride in it due to my mother and her side of the family, being passed down from her side of the family. I see it as a tool to educate people. I have had people reach out to me inquiring about what I use in my hair.
What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
One feature that I am seeing through the use of Mixed Chicks products is the added moisture and health that I see on a day to day basis, helps in a way that is immeasurable.
Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?
From a day in time where both men and women are growing their hair and trying to get it as healthy looking as possible, it would be crazy for anyone to neglect the simple fact that having a quality product goes unmatched. Supporting the idea of overall health, I commonly see those who do not attempt to make their hair, “healthy” vs just putting things in their hair. If a person is patient enough to grow it, by all means, they should take the best care of it. “Trust the universe and respect your hair”. – Bob Marley

What’s your Go-to summer hairstyle?
I essentially use a form of wash and go in the summer. Next summer, I’m sure there will be more length to my hair; I will play around with a few styles and products.
Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine? (Paddle Brushes/Make-Up/ Soap/Spring Bands)
Ah, no I do not; I have not seen them in stores so I did not know about them. Would not be opposed to trying them though.
