Dominique
What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial” mean to you in 2017?
Being mixed in 2017 means that I am able to identify with, embrace, and celebrate all of my ethnicities in different ways with a lot of pride. I love who I am
Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?
My go-to Mixed Chicks product that I can not go without is the Leave-In Conditioner. It is EVERYTHING!
How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?
Having a product specifically for my ethnic background has not only impacted my beauty regime, but also my confidence in continuing to rock my natural hair. I use Mixed Chicks products KNOWING that I am going to achieve a beautiful end result whether I’m doing a wash & go, twist out, braid out, or a sleek style.
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
My hair has several different textures which represent my ethnic background in many ways. Some parts of my hair are tightly curled, while other parts are looser. Some parts are wavy and other parts are perfectly spiraled. The different textures on my head represent the various skin tones, eye colors, personalities, from each of my ethnic backgrounds. Each with their own character and identity.
What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
One feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers my hair care is in the brand name itself. There are so many stigmas and negative opinions attached to being mixed. Having a brand named Mixed Chicks helps me to feel more confident about being mixed and also reminds me that being mixed does not mean that I have to look a certain way. Mixed people come in tons of different complexions with tons of different eye colors, hair textures, etc and it should all be embraced and celebrated. The Mixed Chicks brand represents that.
Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?
The hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types is vital for our generation because it is important to love our natural selves for who we are 1st and foremost. There are many influences and images out there today that promote beauty as being defined as a specific look or a specific hair texture, eye color, etc in one way or another. It is important to love our natural hair and our natural selves and to take care of our natural hair and realize that we are all beautiful even if our hair is more coily than the people we see on the commercials or in the magazines. We are all beautiful in our own ways and the natural hair revolution celebrates that.
