What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?
Being multiracial has allowed me to be an extremely well rounded person.
It compels me to look at the world from a point of view that is not confined to black or white. This has allowed me to connect with a myriad of divergent people and cultures and I am extremely grateful. In 2017 this assists me in my “woke”ness for every race and nationality because I have grown up with so many nationalities and races influencing me.
Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?
I LOVE the original “Mixed Chicks” Leave-In Conditioner! It is one of the few hair products I will spend a significant amount of money on.
How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?
Having a product that is tailored to mixed hair has made my life so much easier. Before I tried “Mixed Chicks” I was constantly left with products that either did not moisturize my hair enough or were too heavy and left my hair limp and weighed down. “Mixed Chicks” provides the perfect amount of moisture and hold for my complex hair.
Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine?
I use and am completely enamored with the “Mixed Chicks Spring Bands”! They do not tear, dent, or squash my hair and they have become my go-to hair tie.
What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out?
I am very interested in trying the “Morning After” Redefining foam and the “Curl Sculptor”.
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
My curls definitely visually reflect my background. My hair grows in many different patterns and changes as I age. I have pieces that grow straight from the root, coil, and zigzag. The bizarre and beautiful texture of my hair is apart of me and my heritage and it shows in every strand.
What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
I love that the “Mixed Chicks” brand promotes togetherness through diversity. The brand really makes an effort to include not only women, but also men. I am very impressed with this because there are few products for men with mixed hair.
Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?
This movement in vital and very impactful in this generation because women of color are enjoying an exodus from the years of hate and oppression we have experienced. The steps we are taking to love our differences, such as the natural hair movement are making us more confident and free. The freedom and confidence we are gaining is propelling and will continue to propel us to grow into a more powerful group.
Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?
I really love Jhene Aiko. She is such a beam of light and transparency! She embraces every part of her ethnicity and seeing her do this encouraged me to do so as well.
Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
Sun-Kiss Alba, Andreas Choice, and The Find Guru are among my favorites. I love Alba’s natural approach to beauty, Andrea’s fun and interesting personality, and I actually have no idea what “The Find Guru’s” real name is ( I even looked it up), but I love to watch her because she dyes her hair really light like I do and I love her tips for hair care after bleaching.
