Mixed Chicks Presents: Your Hair Story Series- Lorelle

By Desiree Johnson

Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

Being mixed in 2017 means everything to me! It is important to have pride in your heritage especially in a time where sometimes society isn’t as welcoming. I strive to be a positive representation of my family lineage.

Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

My favorite, absolute go-to products from Mixed Chicks are the Leave-In Conditioner and the Curl Sculptor. I can do a wash and go with those two and know that my curls are going to come out looking spectacular! I actually swear by them and encourage my family and friends to buy them!

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

Having curly hair is so special to me! My mom is West Indian and my dad is Cape Vedean. My hair is a true representation of both sides. Growing up, I remember going to the Cape Verdean festivals in Providence, Rhode Island and admiring  the men and women for their many shades of beauty and amazing curl patterns! My West Indian family also have beautiful tight curls with full textures! My hair is an extension of who I am and where I come from! I take a lot of pride in it.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

A component of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers me is their dedication to showcasing the unique spectrum of men and women’s hair. I’ve identified with the Mixed Chicks line for quite some time now because of consistent product quality.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

It is important to celebrate diversity in hair because often, society tries to define beauty for us. We cannot be confined or consumed by what anyone tells us our hair should be! If you want to wear an Afro like it’s 1971, you should be able do so and know that it’s just as beautiful as a silk press! It is vital to promote this message of individualize beauty for the future of our children and the world they will come to know.
