As a mixed chick, I strongly believe in treating your curls the way they should be treated but sometimes it can be so hard, time consuming and just flat out ANNOYING and believe me, I have been there and done that. It is the main reason why I began being a content creator on Youtube…to help people on their journey too. So here’s my story.
Both my parents are mixed themselves, which makes me mixed with French-Canadian, Maltese, Jamaican and Cuban. As a little girl, growing up, I was aware of my ethnicities, and was confident in who I was. To me being mixed was my ‘normal’, as everyone in my family was mixed. No one in my family has the same hair texture/type.. my mother has 2b/c hair and my older sister has type 4C hair. So figuring out what worked for my hair was a bit challenging and truthfully, a hassle.
My mother would always do my hair and take care of it, but there came a time as I was of age, and had to take on the responsibility of managing my textured hair myself. I had somewhat of an idea of HOW to care for it, learning from my mother but always felt like nothing would work for me, no amounts of product, routine or technique. I began slacking and giving up on trying to rejuvenate my dry hair and just didn’t pay much attention to it, as I should have, and let me tell you, that’s the worst thing you could ever do. My hair had crazy amounts of split ends, it was super dry and brittle. It basically looked like it had no life. I always attempted to pull off the “Wash n Go” look but could never find products that WORKED for my hair or my hair would just tangle up and get even MORE
But let me tell you…
When I first heard about Mixed Chicks, it was somewhat comforting to know that no matter what number/letter you are on the ‘hair type’ chart, their products were made targeting diversity so that you can care and style your hair with ease. Knowing that I found a brand that knew all about the struggle and formulated a solution, gave me all the more reason to try it out.
What I love most about their products, is they all have more than one function. For example, not only does a styling cream.. style. But it also helps retain moisture, promote growth and conditions/hydrates your hair. That’s definitely one of my staple products, because it makes me feel like I’m getting a 4-in-1 product that does it all, making my life and pocket $$, so much easier! Their formula is really lightweight, but still managed to work for my hair type. Usually I would need more heavy products in order to tame and achieve the look I’m going for, especially for a wash n go, but I was able to achieve it with their products, and their products only! I simply don’t have to layer up on products anymore and I can now say, I am HAPPY to rock my natural hair and curls without having to dread the process!
Thanks Mixed Chicks!
