Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.
▪ What has been your experience been with the Mixed Chicks products?
Mixed Chicks from my first use truly transformed my view of my curls and how I can love them just as much as I do wearing my hair styled straight. They leave my curls hydrated, defined, full of volume and my confidence as high as the summer sun.
▪ What makes them different than other hair/beauty products you tried in the past?
Other hair products left me with dry and lackluster curls that led to a mound of freeze and frustration. These results also led to breakage and a straw like texture when I straightened my hair. Mixed Chicks provides overall care for the wellbeing of my hair in any natural state, curly or straight, leaving my hair full of shine, definition, bounce and healthy.
▪ Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?
Mixed Chicks Leave In Conditioner has always been the product I can’t rock my curls without hands down. However, now that I am embracing my curls with a more equal balance of curly or straight the Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner has made this transition flawless. The deep conditioner allows my curls to spring back more vibrant than ever with a softness and shine I can’t get enough of after using it!
▪ How has having a product specifically for your biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?
Mixed Chicks has allowed me to do away with the #1 reason for never wearing my hair curly that nothing works with my curls to really make them pop or give me the polished look I desire. It’s allowed me to embrace more of who I am, a fun journey of self-discovery and self-confidence in every hairstyle!
▪ How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
The versatility of my natural African American hair allows me to show how dynamic it can be, whether straight, wash and go, braids or a combination of many. The addition of my Native American heritage although small provides the unique auburn/sandy color to my hair that changes with the seasons and even naturally highlights when kissed by the sun’s rays.
▪ What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
My hair/beauty care is empowered by Mixed Chicks being comprehensive for the overall health of my hair. It restores and hydrates my curls and my hair being healthy in its most natural state translates into equally healthy hair when straight! An all in one solution! It empowers me to flex my curls just as much as I flex my muscles and that’s daily!!!
▪ If you could define Your Hair Story in one word what would it be?
▪ Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?
It’s vital to this generation because although we are now able to connect globally with so many people through social media and sharing our lives, it also makes us susceptible to comparing who we are to everything and everyone else we see. Some girls think their natural hair isn’t as beautiful because it isn’t a certain curl pattern or color or doesn’t look photo shoot ready curly or straightened each day. I too feel the same at times but the revolution of embracing just you because nobody can be you lets us know there’s something about each of us that’s uniquely beautiful and could be the most beautiful to someone who loves us. I credit my husband to helping me embrace and support the natural hair revolution because he relentlessly tells me how much he loves my curls and wishes I would let them show more to compliment my energetic, confident and strong personality!
▪ If your ‘Mixed Chick’ story were a song, what would it be?
I Am Not My Hair – India Arie
“You can shave it off
Like a South African beauty
Or get in on lock
Like Bob Marley
You can rock it straight
Like Oprah Winfrey
If it’s not what’s on your head
It’s what’s underneath”
