By Desiree Johnson

Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

Ana

What does being (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

I am a Mixed Chicks not because of my race but because I use Mixed Chicks products to celebrate the diversity of hair in its natural form. So that’s what it means it me: inclusion and diversity!

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

YESSSS… the Curl Sculptor!

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

I feel empowered, more confident and positive, as it means inclusion and acceptance!

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My hair/curls in its pure and natural form, what we call CARAPINHA in Portuguese, is very common in Mozambique. Some women will have tighter coils, other will have kinkier hair but in the end, whether biracial or not, we all understand each other’s hair, as it comes from our ancestors and previous generations, who unlike us, didn’t have the knowledge and the products we have today to look after our hair accordingly.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

Kim and Wendy’s simplicity and natural beauty!

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

So that we can freely accept who we are and where we come from, which I believe is half way through to inner peace and well-being.

What’s your Go-to summer hairstyle?

Definetly a Wash & Go or Flat Twists if I have more time.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

YES: Jocelyne Béroard from the group Kassav (the Zouk group from Martinique and Guadalupe).

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

Camila Paco (Naturalíssima – naturalissima.co.mz

Carmen Myral (Black Khakhela)

Cindy Chembeze (cindychembeze.com)

Daisy Gonçalves (Eh Bonito – http:ehbonito.com)

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine? (Paddle Brushes/Make-Up/ Soap/Spring Bands)

I have tried the MakeUp but it didn’t work on my skin. I do use the Spring Bands every now and then. I think I will try the Soaps next.

What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out? (New Products on MixedChicks.Net)

I have tried them all.
