Brandy

What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

When I was younger, I really didn’t understand or even think about what being mixed/multi-racial meant to me. My parents would go back and forth telling me we are both black and creole, so I just ran with that. It wasn’t until recently, when I began to research my family history and confirmed my multi-racial heritage through DNA testing, that I began to really celebrate and be proud of my mixed background. Now in 2017, I can say that being multi-racial means being proud of who you are and embracing all the races that make me. Being unapologetic about my heritage, loving how unique I truly am. I can say proudly that i am Creole woman, beautiful, strong and resilient!

Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

My go-to Mixed Chicks product would have to be a tie between the Shampoo and the Leave-in. I can’t have one without the other!! Together they make my hair BOMB!

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

Having a product specifically for my hair has made wash day so much simpler! I have no worries anymore in that department. New products are constantly being launched by multiple brands and I’m at ease knowing I can find products made just for me!

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine?

The Spring Bands are a life saver! The stretch on them in unbelievable, especially since I have such thick hair. No worries about breakage or any type of damage when using them. I use them on my daughters’ hair too!

What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out?

I’m really interested in trying the slick styling tamer. My edges curl up like crazy so I’m always on the hunt for products to lay those puppies down! LOL!

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My curls represent my ancestors, strong, resilient, and full of life! They represent the struggle of then AND now!

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

The Mixed Chicks brand empowers me with their confidence. They created this product specifically for curly/kinky hair, a product no one really had out at that time, and were confident enough in themselves and the products’ quality that they went for it! That’s what makes them different, that’s what makes them successful. That confidence is what I had to have once I decided to go back natural. It wasn’t an easy journey for me, but having the Mixed Chicks products by my side sure did help me a lot! And it reminded me that confidence is key!

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

The hair revolution is more than vital for our generation right now. I am so proud to see so many women of different cultures embracing their natural hair now. We’ve gone so long living in a society where we’ve been taught to hate our hair or see our hair as difficult and unmanageable. It’s important to our culture that we stress having  healthy natural hair, and get back to loving ourselves no matter what type of hair you have. The hair revolution will be televised!

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

Tracee Ellis Ross is a celebrity that really empowers me. She has always embraced who she is, from her big hair down to her curvy shape! She is a proud mixed race woman and I love her for that. She’s funny, talented, beautiful, philanthropic, all the things that I am striving to be! She’s amazing.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
