Yoya

What does “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

It means being tolerant and open minded. It’s part of my identity and I’m proud of it

Do you have a go-to or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

I’ve started using Mixed Chicks Leave-In and my hair absolutely loves it. It’s a part of my routine now.

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

It’s reassuring cause there’s not much visibility on how to deal with natural hair. It gives us hope that we can live with our natural hair and be ok with it. Not trying to fit into white people hair standards or any kind of standards. Being free and happy with what we have and knowing that it’s managable with the right way to care for it.

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine?

No. I live in France and its not really easy to acces to Mixed Chicks products

What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out?

Mixed Chicks Deep Conditioner

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My dad is mixed so I have black roots from him and my hair definitely comes from this part of my ethnicity. Ive learned to accept it as it is and love it after years with relaxed hair. On my mother side almost everyone has straight hair. And the trend never been wearin natural hair. So I guess conviniency and white hair standards made it ok to relaxe my hair.

But things changed, getting access to knowledge about natural hair got easier with social media and it gave me strengh to go back to my authentic self. It’s a process. A process toward freedom and Im very proud to have made it this far. I allowed myself to be bold enough to wear my hair natural no matter what people were expecting me to look like. Today I wear my hair very proudly.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

Mixed Chicks brand help us manage our hair. My hair loves the Leave-In conditioner.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

With social media people can easily access to information and tuturials. So I think all of this help people to be brave enough to wear their hair natural. The natural hair community is strong and empowering and that is so inspiring and helps a lot of us follow our own path and wear that beautiful hair proudly.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

I would say Tracee Ellis Ross and Solange. I love them. Just by being themselves they inspire me to do the same. And be free and brave.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

I follow a lot of curly hair and get inspired by a lot of them. These days allmyluvs on youtube makes me want to update my routine. Also heyfranhey inspires me a lot. You should check her out. Shes so generous I love her.
