What does being (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial/a Minority) mean to you in 2017?
Being black in 2017 means to be unapologetic for me being black. No longer am I allowing myself to ‘water down’ my blackness to suite or make comfortable those around me. I will wear my natural hair at work (not in a bun as I have been before). I will wear my ‘stay woke’ shirts in public without fear of being judged. And I will speak my opinion and truth on those subjects that are sensitive to talk about.
Who inspires your beauty routine? How does it incorporate into your personal style?
My beauty routine is all about health. I want healthy hair as well as a healthy skin regime. I don’t have a particular person but take bits and pieces from different beauty bloggers and try and incorporate what I think works for me and my routine.
What is your go-to Mixed Chicks product essential for your hair regime?
I’ve been a fave of the Leave-in Conditioner for years. I found it in Target doing a hair product run and decided to try it (my sister had been raving over it). One wash-and-go and I was hooked. Has been a staple in my hair regime ever since.
How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?
Being African-American, curls and afro have played a factor in each decade. There are pictures of my mom’s senior photos with an afro, it was normal for men and women to have afros in the 60s and 70s. I’m glad that the same appreciation seems to be coming back.
What is the one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?
With the entire Mixed Chicks line, I love that the products enhance and define curls without the hard hold that other lines give. My hair is a mixture of varies curls but using this lines has not only helped define my curls but has extended my wash-and-go
Which haircare trend are you excited to try this season?
I’ve been wanting to get my hair highlighted/colors for years. I was always a little hesitant because I heard that I could affect your curl pattern and moisture of your hair but it’s something I want to try and may actually pull the trigger this fall.
