Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. In 2018, do you feel the conversation around being (Multiracial/Biracial/Mixed) has shifted more positively or negatively?
In the curly community, yes! We all empower each other no matter the race or skin color. In society there’s still a low percent of people who are quick to judge or stereotype. Let’s keep shining!
How did you find out about Mixed Chicks?
A few years ago, I saw the brand at stores like CVS and Target. At that time, I wasn’t caring for my curls properly, so I never purchased any products. I won a giveaway on Instagram hosted by @_aubreanacurlss which included the Daily Hair Dress, Curl Sculptor and Styling Gel. I loved the results!
I got to give it to the Curl Sculptor! I’ve used this product alone and it left my curls with enough definition, volume and shine.
How is your cultural/ethnic background reflected in your hair? (ex: texture, length, curl pattern, etc.)
Both my mom and dad of Honduran descent have wavy to curly hair. I love everything about it and I’m proud to be Afro-Latina!
Our new campaign is focused on #itsminetodefine, What does this mean to you?
#itsminetodefine… it’s MY hair! I’ll do what I want with it and can’t nobody tell me nothing!
What’s your favorite protective style?
My all time favorite is two dutch braids, you can’t go wrong with that!
Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
I have so many but ill name a few on Instagram: curly.obsession, its_a_curls_world, hif3licia, __sydneylynn and _aubreanacurlss. They are all so helpful.
