Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

In 2018, do you feel the conversation around being (Multiracial/Biracial/Mixed) has shifted more positively or negatively?

Where I’m from being mixed has gotten more negative views than positive this year. Unfortunately, there is still a struggle of feeling inclusion by all ethnic groups you’re mixed with because sometimes we feel a struggle to show all of our groups just how important they really are to our cultures day to day.

How did you find out about Mixed Chicks?

I found out about mixed chicks some years ago when newly going natural and trying to embrace the look. I ran across some YouTube videos and gave them a try!

What is your go-to Mixed Chicks product essential for your hair regime?

I love the leave in conditioner, either alone or paired with other products it gives amazing definition and moisture! That works best for my hair regime its a holy grail for sure.

How is your cultural/ethnic background reflected in your hair? (ex: texture, length, curl pattern, etc.)

My curl pattern is looser towards the front and slightly tighter in the back and my texture is pretty soft and it likes light products. This reflects my culture because as a mixed race woman it shows just how different textures really can be for everyone, all across the world because no two people are ever the same. However, my hair grows very fast but I get lots of shrinkage so I never notice the growth until I straighten it out! My culture is very mixed up and I always switch my hair and that’s why I feel like it directly reflects me!

Our new campaign is focused on #itsminetodefine, What does this mean to you?

#itsminetodefine means that it’s up to me however I choose to wear my hair. Curly, straight, protective styled or super frizzy. It doesn’t matter because it’s mine and it means whatever I want it to mean to me.

What’s your favorite protective style?

My favorite protective style is Senegalese twist because I wear them long and can style them up or down. Also, it spices my look up without having to spend too much! Either those or top knots!

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

I love watching Jaelah Majette or Luhsettyxo!

Which platform is your go-to outlet for hair advice? (blogs, website, YouTube, Instagram)

YouTube is my go-to platform for hair advice but blogs are a close second both sources are really informative for me.

Interested parties can feel free to LIKE, TWEET, or FOLLOW our social media pages for the latest posts/updates and contact our email for questions on how to get involved. We are looking to showcase anyone who uses the Mixed Chicks brand of beauty products and wants to share their story. What’s the story behind your hair? Let us know!
