Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

Sonia

What does being “Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2018?

Being biracial means having a sense of agency; of who I am in this world. Being part of one of the fastest-growing populations means having the ability to share my rich cultural heritages with those around me.

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

My Go-To is the Leave in Conditioner Mixed Chick Product as it makes my hair feel soft and helps provide the necessary moisture my curls need.

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regimen?

Using the Mixed Chick products is a daily part of my hair and beauty regimen. Their hair care products are made for diverse hair textures and styles just like mine so I am able to mix it up depending on how I feel that day.

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine?

I am a big fan of Mixed Chicks since the first day I saw their billboard on Century Blvd on my way to LAX airport. I use any Mixed Chicks products I can get my hands on. From paddle brushes to spring bands to make up like their foundation and bronzer sticks, I’m all in!

What new 2018 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out?

I look forward to trying the styling/curling gels.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My curls represent my AfroLatina background. I wasn’t always in love with my curls but as I grew older I learned how to care for my hair and style my curls. I love my hair and embracing my curls is part of what makes me who I am and that’s something to be proud of.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

The Mixed Chick brand is synonymous with empowerment. A brand started by two mixed chicks out of necessity in their home is exactly the kind of brand I want to be a part of. The brand is about coming as you are, whatever culture, whatever hair type. Mixed Chick welcomes all hair types, all people and I dig that.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

The hair revolution of celebrating natural hair is important for us and our next generations because the media needs to portray women as we are; our reality. We will no longer conform, look or act a certain way to fit in. We are here and we are saying take us as we are. We want media to see our diversity, not only diversity in culture, but how we choose to wear our hair as well.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

There are many multis out there that I am loving right now. Those that speak out about hair, confidence, equality and social justice are role models for the multiracial/multicultural community. Tracee Ellis Ross, Zendaya, Yara Shahidi, and Alicia Keys are perfect examples.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?
