Sydney

What does being (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

Being ‘mixed’ in 2017 to me means that there is a wide spread of acceptance and diversity creating true love between various races. I feel as though that nobody should have to give into a label given to them by someone else. Everyone should not let labels define them and be bold as well as allow their true personality to shine.

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

The Mixed Chick Leave-In Conditioner is my go-to product. It defines my curls perfectly and keeps my hair moisturized. It’s a product that I can’t live without.

How has having a product specifically for  your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

I used to be more into having a skin/makeup routine, but because there is now more and more hair products specifically directed towards my hair type, I have become more focused on my hair routine and have taken it more seriously. Curly hair is beautiful, and the more products released towards people with that hair texture, gives people like myself, a warm feeling because it means that our hair type is just as important as people with straight hair.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My background is trinidadian and jamaican. I wear my curls to represent how strong and confident the people are from my background are. My mother wears her curls out. She wears them loud and proud, and as a child i’ve always adored her hair, she wears it with confidence and I aspire to be just like her.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

The Mixed Chicks brand promotes confidence, strength, acceptance and equality among people all over the world. Mixed Chicks empowers me by wanting to spread love and positivity and help those struggling to find happiness with their hair. All types of curly haired people all over should love their curls. Mixed Chicks also pushes me to keep my hair healthy, by keeping it moisturized and strong.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

Over the years, people with natural hair have been forced to conform to societal standards where their hair or hairstyles are “a distraction” or “untidy” and are told to straighten it or to find another way to “tame” it. The hair revolution is crucial for this generation because, it is time for a change, and for people to start accepting us for who we are and not judge our character by our hair. With the technology we have today, we can spread the message across the globe, and make out voices heard.

What’s your Go-to summer hairstyle?

I usually make one dutch braid on both sides of my hair, like a crown braid, and tie a bun at the back or a ponytail. This style keeps my hair moisturized during the dry, hot summer days.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

Yara Shahidi

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

Abeer Mo, also known as @curls_n_tings on instagram

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine? (Paddle Brushes/Make-Up/ Soap/Spring Bands)

Other than the Leave-In Conditioner and the Deep Conditioner I sometimes use the Shampoo.

What new 2017 Mixed Chicks product are you interested in trying out? (New Products on MixedChicks.Net)
