How do you feel the conversation regarding (Multiracial/Biracial/Mixed) people has changed in 2018?

I feel like it is a mixture of both, in a way it is positive as people and different cultures are more accepting of biracial families and people as a whole as there was a time that it was not accepted. However, I feel it can bring up negativity mainly in the black community. I feel as though they are seen as more superior and more beautiful than darker skin people due to different factors including their skin complexion, looser hair types and more, and I feel like when mixed race comes into discussion to be used as a comparison against darker shades, that’s is when it becomes a problem because it has affected so many people in the black community from all ages directly and indirectly.

How did you find out about Mixed Chicks?

I found out about Mixed Chicks through YouTube when I was starting my hair journey as I was trying to discover and learn about products.

What is your go-to Mixed Chicks product essential for your hair regime?

I love the Leave-In Conditioner especially if I am doing wash and goes, or twist/braid outs, because it is a great moisturizing, detangles but it’s also a good product to use for styling my hair and it combats frizz.

How is your cultural/ethnic background reflected in your hair? (ex:texture, length, curl pattern, etc.)

I was born in London but my parents are both Nigerian, however despite what people feel about Nigerian hair not being able to grow, I have thick curly waist length hair, I have been transitioning for nearly 3 years, but I would say my hair texture ranges from 3c-4b.

Our new campaign is focused on #itsminetodefine, What does this mean to you?

This campaign means a lot to me because growing up, I had to have my hair relaxed and not in its natural state, so when I decided I wanted to go natural, a lot of people were against it and tried to pressure and trick me into relaxing my hair due to the thickness and length of it which did damage my hair. Also, I had been told that my hair is better relaxed as it is more presentable. When it came to styling my hair, people always had something to say and tried to control the styles I did with my hair, but I knew what I wanted to do with my hair and how I wanted to care for it, I didn’t conform to what the ‘general norm’ here in the UK which is relaxers, braids, weaves, and wigs. I prefer and believe in styling my hair with my own hair which used to irritate a lot of people, and still to this day I do not really understand why!

However, I am glad I did my own thing with my hair as it is my hair, and like this campaign says, it is my hair to define. Now my hair is healthier, thick and longer, and a lot of the same people who were criticizing my way of caring for my hair are the same people asking me for hair advice some years later which encouraged me to start a YouTube Channel.

What’s your favorite protective style?

I feel like it depends on the season and mood for me, when the weather is warmer, I generally prefer to do a twist/braid outs, but when its winter French braids, low ponytails or buns.

What’s your Go-to Spring Hairstyle?

I feel like it changes but this spring I’ve been leaning towards buns or twist outs.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

I actually don’t use YouTube for hairstyles as much, I watch hair videos to discover or find out about products, however I would say my main go-to would be the Glamtwinz on YouTube, I have been watching them for years and were the biggest help when I first started my hair journey, and I find them very inspiring as I have watched them from the beginning and it is amazing to see how far they have come.  I do also watch other people also like FusionofCultures (one of the few natural YouTubers from the UK), NaturalNeiicey, UloveMegz, Melissa Denise, Kaice Alea just to mention a few.

Which platform is your go-to outlet for hair advice? (blogs, website,YouTube, Instagram)

I would say YouTube or websites.

What has been your favorite new Mixed Chicks product out this year?

The newest Mixed Chicks product I tried this year has been the Deep Conditioner which I have used a lot especially in the transition to spring, it really moisturizes and softens my hair and makes my curls look very healthy.
