Jamie

What does being (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

Being Multi-racial in 2017 stirs up a lot of emotions for me, but mainly it’s extremely empowering. It means waking into a room full of people with my head held high after years of shaming myself and not feeling beautiful because my hair stood a little taller and a little wider than others. It means knowing I’m beautiful and fully embracing my uniqueness in every way possible. It means knowing that I’m different, and loving it. I’ve always been stumped when someone asks to touch my hair or slides in the secretly rude comment “but you’re not like, full black, are you?”. Now I’ve started to embrace those comments and take them as an opportunity to educate people on diversity and inclusiveness.

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

Yes, the Leave-In Conditioner. It is, hands- down, the best leave-in I have ever used.

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

Having a product specifically designed for my ethnic background has made a tremendous impact on my beauty regime. No longer am I constantly trying every new curly hair product that hits the shelf, hoping that cure-all to frizziness. I have found that Mixed chicks is truly what I’ve been searching for since i made a concerted effort to not straighten my hair and wear it in it’s natural state.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

My curls represent my African American and Irish Heritage because they are soft tight ringlets and they grow into a fro.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

One feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers my hair/ beauty care is that it’s cruelty- free.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

The celebration of Natural hair is vital for our generation because we are living in a time where it’s really easy to be overly critical of self. We constantly have access to information, people, products, etc. that are constantly showing us what beauty “is” or “what is should be/ look like”, “how we should dress” etc. These constant messages of “inadequacy” can be detrimental to children and adults, alike. With this being the case, as we teach ourselves how to love self and others, we are leading by example of how we are supposed to be loved and celebrated by communities in our purest state. This is creating more unity amongst people and communities.

What’s your Go-To summer hairstyle?

My summer go-to style is the wash-and-go.Maybe a messy bun if it’s really hot out.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?

Yes, I love Jillian Hervey (1/2 of Lion Babe). She definitely inspires me to wear my hair bigger and bigger everyday. She is fearless and courageous, you can tell by how she wears her hair.

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

Yes, 2 beauty bloggers vloggers inspire me tremendously and they are @ownbyfemme & @frogirlginny. They are effortlessly comfortable with rocking their curls and showing the world their style. They inspire so many people to be comfortable and confident in their own skin and be true to their selves. It’s so beautiful.

Do you use any other Mixed Chicks products as part of your beauty routine? (Paddle Brushes/Make-Up/ Soap/Spring Bands)

Not yet, but I do want try out all of the products the paddle brush.
