By Desiree Johnson

Welcome to the Your Hair Story Series presented by Mixed Chicks. This dynamic, new innovative series allows Mixed Chicks users to share their personal stories behind their hair. Hair that kinks, coils, curls, waves, and tells a story reflecting their culture, race, ethnicity, and upbringing. Like our customers, hair comes in all shades, textures and shapes unique to each individual and here at Mixed Chicks we want to celebrate that to the utmost extent. Meet our exquisite Mixed Chicks women, men, and children who exhibit beauty from the root and give us honest, bold stories that we are honored to share with you.

Michelle

What does being (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you in 2017?

There’s so many beautiful races and it doesn’t matter where you come from everything about you is absolutely beautiful. Remember where you’re from and your physical appearance is what makes you, YOU! We are all the same and no one is different ❤

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product you cannot go without?

My go-to has definitely got to be the Leave-In Conditioner, my holy grail I live by that! I use it while I’m doing my wash and go I also use it to refresh my curls it’s makes things so much easier and leaves my hair extraaaaaa smooth I LOVE IT!

How has having a product specifically for your cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background impacted your beauty regime?

Having a product for my ethnicity has been amazing and has helped me in such a big way. Coming from a Dominican background many times your told to go “fix your hair” aka go straighten your hair because you look crazy! A lot of my friends didn’t really have curly hair and growing up my mom use to ALWAYS straighten my hair so I really didn’t know how to take care of my curls, as I grew older and did my hair myself I would straighten it too because I didn’t know how to take care of it and I basically got use to always having my hair straight.  Mixed Chicks has helped me brace my curls even more always leaving my hair hydrated and so soft!

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

I feel like my hair represents very little of my cultural background I feel like my curls just represent ME and my personality! I wouldn’t want another crown on my head to show my beauty than the curls I have on my head. Taking care of my curls is a part-time job but having my beautiful curls reflects on how I take care of myself. I wouldn’t change these curls for nothing in the world I’ll embrace them forever.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

One of the features of Mixed Chicks that empowers my hair is that it truly does work it does exactly what it says!

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

Celebrating natural hair types is vital for our generation because I feel like our generation should be the one to speak out and stand for one another so many things are happening especially on social media and people are doing things and feel like they should do things that shouldn’t be done and wanting to be something they aren’t!

Do you have any go-to beauty/hair bloggers or vloggers who inspire or help your hairstyles?

I do have beauty hair bloggers/vloggers who inspire me I started my curly hair journey all thanks to @Sunkissalba if it wasn’t for her I swear I would still be straightening my hair she’s truly a curly hair goddess and another one is @Chelliscurls she so helpful with all her hairstyle tips and hair tips she’s truly inspiring love her!
