What does being (“Mixed, Multiracial or Bi-racial) mean to you​ in
2017?

Being multiracial in 2017 means being the girl in a crowded room with your eccentric beauty having to often answer, “Where are you from?” We are living in such a well diversified world where being multi or biracial is the norm. It’s beautiful to see how ethnicities and cultures can seamlessly merge to reproduce. To be multiracial, you automatically take on a role as a social activist bringing awareness of all the ethnicities you identify with. More importantly, you’re confident knowing that you hold a connection to multiple cultures.

Do you have a Go-To or token Mixed Chick Product​ you cannot go without?

 So like most natural girls, once I did the big chop the hair section under my sink was overflowing with products from many different haircare lines and also like most natural girls, every time I was in the beauty supply store or Target, I was on the prowl for the next new thing to try. However, no matter what new product or Youtube video I watched promising the best results, I always went back to the Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner. The slip, the consistency, and the way my hair felt after drying just couldn’t be beat. So do I have a go to product that I can’t go without, oh you bet I do and it’s hands down the leave in-conditioner.

How has having a product specifically for your
cultural/biracial/ethnic/multiracial background ​impacted your beauty regime?

My coworkers are always amazed when I come to work with a new style almost every other day. They are in awe at my consistency to be so ingenuitive and are constantly looking to see what I will do next. Without having a product designed specifically for my ethnic hair, I would not have the flexibility to go from a slicked back chignon one day to wild soft curls from the next. My beauty regimen allows me to style my hair that’s reflective of what I’m wearing, as well as, how I’m feeling that day.

How do your curls/hair texture represent your cultural/ethnic background?

I am the daughter of an African-American man and woman, with ethnic links East Africa and I’m sure much more. (When I finally sit down and comb through my ancestry, I’ll have more to fork up). My curls,depending on their mood, can go from loose springs to tightly coiled.

What is one feature of the Mixed Chicks brand that empowers your hair/beauty care?

One feature, which is probably the most important, is that Mixed Chicks is not targeted for only “mixed chicks”. It’s a product line that gives all  women, no matter what their ethnic background, an opportunity to explore their naturally curly here; whether it be wavy 2a or kinky 4b. This is imperative as women of color are already marginalized. Therefore, when you are consciously making a decision to support a company by purchasing their products, you want to make sure it is one that accurately represents you.

Why is the hair revolution celebrating natural/healthy hair types vital for our generation?

Now, more than ever during the past few decades, women of color aregracefully rocking their natural hair. We are raising our daughters to promote self love and to make educated decisions about what beauty products they use. This healthy hair celebration is vital for our generation as we are continually engaging in conversations, making valuable connections, and reinforcing the importance of scrutinizing beauty labels.

Is there a (Mixed/Multiracial/Bi-racial) celebrity who empowers you?’

Can we just take a moment to stop and breathe in all the greatness of Ms. Tracee Ellis Ross?! She empowers me in every sense of the word. She is charismatic, confident, educated, successful (I can go on and on), and dare I even need to say, drop dead gorgeous! We all just need to give her several rounds of applause.
